The Summit Chicago Partners With University of Chicago to Advance AI and Innovation in Hospitality

Sanjay Boddhu of the University of Chicago addresses The Summit Chicago.

As we reflect on another successful Summit Chicago, I'm reminded that meaningful innovation happens when industry and academia come together with a shared purpose.

Ateema's mission has always been to help advance the hospitality, tourism, and events industries through connection, education, and innovation. The continued collaboration between Ateema and the University of Chicago has become an outstanding example of how academic partnerships can create real-world impact for students and industry professionals.

During this year's Summit Chicago, we were especially proud to see industry leaders and University of Chicago faculty and students actively contributing to conversations around AI, data science, personalization, engagement, and the future of events. Bringing together practitioners, innovators, and future leaders is exactly the type of ecosystem our industry needs as technology continues to reshape how we design experiences, engage attendees, and create business value.

A special thank you goes to Sanjay Boddhu, PhD of the University of Chicago for sharing his expertise on the intersection of AI, location intelligence, personalization, and the future of adaptive event experiences. His panel discussion highlighted how emerging technologies can help transform events from static, one-size-fits-all experiences into intelligent, responsive engagement ecosystems. By combining AI with location-aware insights and real-time behavioral signals, organizations can better understand attendee intent, create more meaningful connections, and deliver highly relevant experiences at scale.

Beyond his contributions on stage, Sanjay has been a tremendous advocate for applied learning and industry collaboration, helping connect academic innovation with real-world business challenges. His support of student capstone projects and experiential learning initiatives continues to create valuable opportunities for students to apply data science, AI, analytics, and location intelligence to challenges facing the hospitality, tourism, and events industries.

We are equally grateful to Dr. Utku, Don Patchell and Lauren Darga for their continued leadership and commitment to building bridges between academic excellence and industry application. Their support has helped create meaningful opportunities for students to work on real business challenges through capstone projects, applied data science initiatives, and industry engagement activities that directly benefit organizations across our region.

Partnerships like ours with the University of Chicago demonstrate the power of applied data science, AI, analytics, and location intelligence when combined with experiential learning and industry collaboration. Together, we are not only preparing the next generation of leaders but also helping our industry embrace new opportunities to create more personalized, data-driven, and engaging experiences for customers, attendees, and communities.

We look forward to continuing this partnership and creating even more opportunities for students, faculty, and industry professionals to collaborate, innovate, and shape the future of hospitality, tourism, and events.

The future of our industry will be built through collaboration, and we are proud to be part of that journey together.
