Tom Barnas is a Chicago-based writer, producer and on-air storyteller with more than 20 years of experience creating award-winning, multiplatform content across television, radio, digital media and live events. An Emmy-nominated multimedia expert, Tom is known for audience-first storytelling rooted in community, culture and the authentic voices that define Chicago.

Currently working with CBS Chicago News, Tom leverages his expertise in live event production and multimedia storytelling to deliver impactful, high-quality broadcasts. He manages daily live productions from concept through execution, ensuring seamless delivery on deadline and within budget while collaborating with internal teams and external partners. His work places a strong emphasis on community engagement, particularly through large-scale annual events that elevate inclusive and diverse narratives.

Tom previously held multiple roles at WGN-TV, including Digital Feature Reporter and Special Events Producer, where he enterprise-reported, produced, edited and hosted original content for wgntv.com and WGN’s social platforms. He helped lead coverage for major station initiatives and marquee events including the WGN Block Party, Back to School Kids Fair, Toy Drive, Food Drive and major Chicago sports rallies, reaching audiences from neighborhood gatherings to crowds of more than 10,000.

He also created original editorial projects such as Stories From The 78, highlighting Chicago’s neighborhood history and evolving identity.
